#15 Skeptics don’t care

People are going to hate on you and the things you do.

It’s gonna happen.

I have my share of critics and skeptics with the stuff I do.  I think people just naturally see creative ventures as things that will fail.  Mostly because of all the hard work you have to do without seeing any real money come across the table.  It’s sad, but true.

It doesn’t matter if you are doing good or bad.  Everyone is a critic.  Everyone is a skeptic.  Or they see your passion as a hobby or phase you are going through.

Nothing feels better than proving those people wrong.  It’s a great motivational tool, and actually drives me a lot.

Here’s the problem…when you prove them wrong, they don’t care.  Nobody cares.  They don’t care when you do well…  it doesn’t automatically turn them into fans.  Their opinion doesn’t and won’t change.  Simply put, those people will always be critics and skeptics.  Rather than be bitter or skeptical of you, they will just move on to something else.

The best thing you can do is stop caring about them as well.  Stop looking for everyone’s approval.  Stop working so hard to convert people to think or act the same way you do.

Stop-Sign

When you feel the urge to please them, remember to never take failure personally.  Be objective and do your best to be unemotional about the critics and skeptics.  The things that are viewed as setbacks are only temporary.  Everything you are working on is a marathon, not a sprint, right?

Take your time, effort and energy and put it into the people who do care.

Those are the people who are important!  They are the ones who deserve it, and those are the people who will be there to pick you up when you are down.

They are the people who will share the love when you do something great.
