#32 Its raining

To my So Cal people:

Listen…its wet outside right now!  Do you really think it is safe to pass on the right without using your blinker?  Is 85 or 90 MPH really a good speed to travel on the freeway?

When the road is covered in water and you are driving fast, there is a chance your car will float on top of that water.  It’s called hydroplaning.  And it happens every year around this time in the Los Angeles areas.

Those tires are the only thing between you and the road.  We don’t want them to lose contact with the pavement.  You can’t steer, brake, or accelerate like you normally can.  Trust me, my family is in the car industry and we hear all the stories.

I don’t want to hear about you.

Here is what I want you to do:

1. Turn on your lights…other people need to see you coming.
2. Slow down!  I can’t stress this enough!
3. Make sure you have a good set of windshield wiper blades.
4. Try not to drive toward the sides of the roads.  They are highest in the middle for drainage.
5. Use your turn signals and don’t pass on the right.

This is common sense, right?  Let’s use our heads and do what’s right.  You’ll be grateful when you get back to your warm house safe and sound.
